Ube powder dosages
How much ube powder for a latte, a cake or an ice cream? Here are our dosing benchmarks, in spoons and grams, to nail taste and colour in every recipe.

The right dose, recipe by recipe
Ube powder is concentrated: a little is enough. The dose depends on two things, the colour intensity you want and the volume of your preparation. As a rule, count one to two teaspoons for a drink, a little more for baking.
A level teaspoon of powder weighs about 2.5 g. Two teaspoons, about 5 g: that's the typical dose for a large latte.
The dosages: at a glance.
| Preparation | Dose | For | Colour |
|---|---|---|---|
| Latte, drink | 1 to 2 tsp | 1 cup (250 ml) | Medium to intense purple |
| Smoothie | 1 tsp | 1 large glass | Pastel purple |
| Cake, loaf cake | 2 to 3 tbsp | 250 g of flour | Bold purple |
| Cookies, shortbread | 1 to 2 tbsp | ≈ 12 pieces | Soft purple |
| Cream, ganache | 2 to 3 tsp | 250 ml | Intense purple |
| Ice cream | 3 to 4 tsp | 500 ml | Deep purple |

Three purple intensities
For the same recipe, you can aim for three results. A pastel purple, delicate, with a light dose. A medium purple, the most common, with the typical dose. An intense purple, spectacular, by increasing the powder. It's up to you to choose according to the effect you want.
Always start with the low dose and add gradually. It's easier to intensify than to fix a mix that's too loaded.
Adapt to the purity
These benchmarks apply to a 100% pure powder, like ours. With a preparation cut with sugar or additives, you often have to add much more to get the same colour and taste, which loads the recipe with sugar.
- 1 to 2 tsp for a drink, more in baking.
- 1 level tsp ≈ 2.5 g of powder.
- Dose to the colour intensity you want.
- A pure powder needs less material than a cut preparation.

Your questions: dosing.
How much ube powder for a latte?
One to two teaspoons for a 250 ml cup, according to the intensity of colour and taste you want.
How much powder for a cake?
About 2 to 3 tablespoons for 250 g of flour, for a beautiful purple colour and a present taste.
How much does a spoon of ube powder weigh?
A level teaspoon weighs about 2.5 g. Two teaspoons, about 5 g.
How to get a more intense purple?
Gradually increase the powder dose. A lighter milk or batter also lets the purple stand out better.
Do you need more powder with a sweetened preparation?
Yes. A preparation cut with sugar contains less ube, so you need more for the same colour, at the cost of added sugar.
