Ube cinnamon rolls
A soft leavened dough, a purple cinnamon swirl, an icing that drips over the still-warm top: ube cinnamon rolls are comfort at its peak.
A little patience for the rise, and happiness comes out of the oven.

The comforting swirl
The cinnamon roll is a brioche dough rolled around a fragrant filling.
Here, ube tints the dough a soft purple that contrasts with the cinnamon. Soft, warm, coated in icing, they fill the house with their scent. A generous dessert, to share at the weekend over a coffee.
Leavened dough needs warmth and time to rise: it's the yeast that makes it so soft.

It all comes down to the rise.
Let the dough double in volume in a warm spot: that's the key to softness. Don't overload the filling, or it will leak. Cover the icing over the rolls while still warm, so it seeps in.
No time? Prepare the rolls the night before, let them rise overnight in the fridge and bake in the morning.

All you're missing is the Kinampay ube powder.
Your questions about this recipe.
How do you make ube cinnamon rolls?
Make a leavened dough with ube powder, let it rise, roll it out, fill with butter, sugar and cinnamon, roll up, cut, let rise then bake for 22 minutes at 180 °C.
Why won't my dough rise?
The yeast may have been killed by milk that was too hot, or the room is too cold. Use warm milk and a warm spot.
Do ube cinnamon rolls contain caffeine?
No, ube is naturally caffeine-free.
Can they be made the day before?
Yes: let them rise overnight in the fridge and bake in the morning.
How do you keep them soft?
In an airtight container for 2 days; reheat for a few seconds to bring back the softness.
